2017年10月發布的IATF16949認證體系修訂認可解釋中最受企業歡迎的當屬SI4,關于內部審核員能力要求的修訂，因為不少企業在認可解釋發布之前因此項而被開具不符合項要求整改。以下IATF16949認證標準關于內部審核員能力要求修訂相關內容，藍色是有變內容。
7.2.3 Internal auditor competency內部審核員能力
The organization shall have a documented process(es) to verify that internal auditors are competent, taking into account anyrequirements defined by the organization and/orcustomer-specific requirements. For additional guidance on auditor competencies, refer to ISO 19011. The organization shall maintain a list of qualified internal auditors.
Quality management system auditors,manufacturing process auditors, and product auditorsshallallbe able to demonstrate the following minimum competencies:
a) understanding of the automotive process approach for auditing, including risk-based thinking;
b) understanding of applicable customer-specific requirements;
c) understanding of applicable ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 requirements related to the scope of the audit;
d) understanding of applicable core tool requirements related to the scope of the audit;
e) understanding how to plan, conduct, report, and close out audit findings.
Additionally, At a minimum, manufacturing process auditors shall demonstrate technical understanding of the relevant manufacturing process(es) to be audited, including process risk analysis (such as PFMEA) and control plan.
At a minimum, product auditors shall demonstrate competence in understanding product requirements and use of relevant measuring and test equipment to verify product conformity.
Where training is providedIf the organization’s personnel provide the trainingto achieve competency, documented information shall be retained to demonstrate the trainer’scompetency with the above requirements。

組織應有形成文件的過程，用于驗證內部審核員的能力，要考慮到組織規定的任何要求和/或顧客特定要求。關于審核員能力的更多參考，參見ISO 19011。組織應保持一份合格內部審核員名單。
質量管理體系審核員，制造過程審核員和產品審核員應能證明證實最少具備以下能力：
a）了解汽車審核過程方法，包括基于風險的思維；
b)了解適用的顧客特定要求；
c)了解ISO 9001和IATF 16949中適用的與審核范圍有關的要求；
d)了解與審核范圍有關的適用的核心工具要求；
e)了解如何計劃審核、實施審核、報告審核以及關閉審核發現。
此外，制造過程審核員還應至少證實對于待審核的相關制造過程，其具有技術知識，包括過程風險分析（例如PFMEA）和控制計劃。
產品審核員還應至少證實其了解產品要求，并能夠使用相關測量和試驗設備驗證產品符合性。
在通過培訓如果組織的人員提供培訓來取得人員能力的情況下，應保留形成文件的信息，證實培訓師的能力符合上述要求。
